The architectural studio Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), authors of the design for the Vltava Philharmonic Hall, has won the international competition for the new Hamburg State Opera.
This is an important project within the European cultural landscape, further developing themes of contemporary architecture, public space, and openness of cultural institutions.
Both the Prague and Hamburg projects share a modern architectural approach built on accessibility from all sides, a natural connection to the surrounding urban environment, and the integration of cultural functions with public life.
Musical institutions hold a strong tradition in both cities, and the emergence of new buildings strengthens a cultural axis linking Prague, the Vltava and Elbe rivers, and Hamburg — an axis in which modern concert and opera venues play an increasingly significant role.
We congratulate the BIG team on this achievement. The result of the Hamburg competition is of great interest to us as we continue preparing the Vltava Philharmonic Hall, which is currently in the phase of developing the building permit documentation. International projects of this kind highlight the role that high-quality architecture can play in supporting and enriching the cultural infrastructure of European cities.
